Calendar

The Calendar includes all BUCS-BUSA sailing events, relevant RYA and other events (including international) and programmes in which student sailors and teams regularly compete or participate (e.g. Keelboat Squad). The Calendar carries all university events hosted by BUSA Member Clubs (USCs) that are notified to us (inclusion is discretionary, but no other events are listed on the first weekend of November, which is reserved for the BUCS-BUSA Fleet Championships). Events for inclusion should be notified to the BUSA Editor or by using the Contact Form.

The Castaways Cup!
Welsh Harp Sailing Club, Birchen Grove, London, NW9 8SA.

The University of London Sailing Club is excited to announce that our annual alumni event, The Castaways Cup, is now open for everyone!

This will be a one day team racing event to be held on the 16th June.

There will not only be a BBQ for lunch but also dinner after racing; fully equipped with some excellent food, prizes and one of the cheapest bars in London. This combined with sailing in sunny June means it is an event not to be missed!

Not only will the overall winner of the event be awarded the elusive London Foot, but the winning castaways boat will also be receiving the Castaways Cup!

The racing will be in random pairs format so you will enter as a boat rather than a team. The prices will be £25 per boat and £15 for Castaways and London and Imperial sailors. Prices for BBQ and dinner will be confirmed at a later date.

Follow the Event page.

SIs and NORs will be published soon.

Hope to see you on the water!

WLYC 24 Hour Race 2018
West Lancashire Yacht Club Marine Drive [sea side of the Marine Lake (N of Southport Pier)] Southport, PR8 1RY

“The UK's No.1 dinghy endurance race.

The 24 Hour Race is the premiere opportunity for Sailing Club teams to compete for serious trophies (and status), whilst also enjoying the unique hospitality provided by one of the best social events in the dinghy racing calendar so make sure you join us for the Friday night!

“The race is sailed on the relatively safe waters of the Marine Lake at Southport, and racing is continuous for 24 Hours even in extreme weather conditions. Entries are accepted from Sailing Clubs, Class Associations and Universities throughout the UK, with past visits from Eire, France and even the USA. Crew, equipment and sail changes are permitted during the race (but only in a specially designated docking area).

“The 24 Hour Race, now in its 50th year, is sailed in classic dinghies (Enterprise, GP14, Lark and Firefly); and has opportunities for Masters, Ladies and University teams to compete for special prizes, whilst also being on equal terms with all other teams.”

See West Lancashire YC - 24 Hour Race page, together with NoR, Entry Form and 2017 Handbook, "The Mast" here.

Plymouth University S.&P.C 'A' led the field of eight university teams at the 2017 edition, also including

Midlands Mixer
Burton Sailing Club, Foremark Reservoir, Repton Road, Milton, Repton, Derbyshire DE65 6EG

The Midlands Mixer will be hosted at Burton Sailing Club by Loughborough University Sailing Club in collaboration with the BUSA Midlands Area on the 20th/21st October 2018.

This year, for the first time, the Midlands will be holding its very own coached event to kick the year off.

The Saturday will be a day of top quality race training by two coaches to be announced nearer the time (clue: both BUSA Finalists), followed by a one dayer team racing event on the Sunday.

The event is aimed specifically towards freshers coming from a fleet racing background learning the ropes of team racing.

The price per team for the full weekend will be £250. Sunday’s one dayer can be purchased for £150 providing a rare opportunity to benefit from both coaching and umpiring in a relaxed atmosphere before the season begins in earnest.

Accommodation will be provided for both Friday and Saturday.

A social will, of course, take place on both days also. More details of food and social tickets to follow.

Saturday coached session team limit: 8 teams.

Sunday coached one dayer team limit: 12 teams.

Spaces for both days will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
